Description

The inspiration for the distinctive design of the sleigh bed came from archaeological remains dating back to Ancient Rome, developing in 19th Century France. By 1815, the First Empire style sleigh bed design traveled to America, where it was well received by local crafts-people and artisans. This bed is a reproduction of an early 18th century Ships Sleigh Bed.
